The TNA-300 product series currently supports 3 different VLAN features.
1. VLAN passthrough
VLAN passthrough allows all traffic tagged with a VLAN to pass transparently through the connections created by the TNA-300 series radios. This allows, for example, a router to add a VLAN tag at the customer premise WAN which will remain intact as it traverses the TNA radios connections. There are no settings required to enable this feature.
2. Management VLAN
Management VLAN allows restricting access to the management interfaces of the TNA to a specific VLAN ID. This can be helpful for isolating the management of the devices from the main traffic of the network. Management VLAN settings can be found on the Network settings configuration page of the local UI.
When management VLAN is enabled, you will no longer be able to access the device outside of the VLAN network. However, once management VLAN is enabled, additional settings will appear giving you the option to enable a static IP on the data bridge, if desired.
Here's a typical use case for the data bridge static IP:
In the lab: Devices are pre-configured, with management VLAN enabled, and a static IP set on the data bridge.
In the field: The tech will need to be able to access the device's local UI for aiming and any additional configuration. They can do this by connecting their laptop to one of the ethernet ports and then configuring their laptop's IP to be in the range of the device's pre-configured static IP. This will allow them to connect to the device without having to setup a VLAN on their laptop device. Once aiming and installation is complete, the tech can disable the static IP in the device's web UI, only allowing access to the device's management capabilities over the management VLAN network in the future.
3. Data VLAN
(Available in firmwares 1.10.3+)
When Data VLAN is enabled, traffic with the specified VLAN ID received over the upstream wireless link will have the VLAN tag removed as it exits the wired ports.
Similarly, traffic coming into the device over the wired ports will be tagged with the specified VLAN ID when it's sent over the wireless link.
Data VLAN Notes:
- This feature is only available when your device is operating in station mode.
- The local web UI will be still accessible from the wired ports when data VLAN is enabled, unless management VLAN is enabled.
Please reference the TNA-301/302 Web UI manual for more information regarding how to setup VLANs or how they work in operation.
